This Special Exhibit will explore the evolution and innovation of Photography from traditional darkroom to digital and beyond. Photography has catapulted to one of the most talked about and used art forms in the 21st Century. Over 150 premier works by invited and juried artists of renown, recognized both locally and internationally, will gather in 2012 to demonstrate the renaissance of Photography. The Festival is held in the Lakewood Center for the Arts in Lake Oswego, a suburb of Portland, Oregon.

The Festival, entering its 49th year, has grown to include an open art show of over 1,000 artists’ work, a craft fair featuring more than 110 artists, interactive art demonstrations and a juried exhibit. This festival attracts 22,000-25,000 people and the celebration of art also features a performing art series with music in the park, special hands-on art exhibits and a children’s art and performance venue.
Each year the Festival showcases a different type of art for its cornerstone Special Exhibit. Its mission is to display and sell quality artwork and to educate patrons about a particular art form. This year the Special Exhibit will feature photography and the processes of the medium, entitled, Photography: Pinhole to iPhone. Photographers working in traditional, alternative, and digital print methods may submit work. Your work, if accepted, will be displayed in a gallery that has more than 3,000 feet of well-designed display space. There will be demonstrations and educational displays where various aspects of photography will be featured.

Each artist may submit up to three pieces for judging. All work must be original and must have been created in the past three years and be for sale.

All images must be framed behind glass or sheet acrylic (“Plexiglas”) and window matted. Frames must be black or dark gray and window mats must be white or off-white. All frames must have “D-ring” attachments connected by a tight wire. There are no restrictions on print and frame dimensions. Frame and window mat colors not meeting these requirements will be disqualified from final judging.

All artwork must be for sale and a commission of forty percent (40%) will be charged on all sales. The price for a specific art piece shall be at the discretion of the artist, subject to possible review by the curators. Prices assigned by the artist shall include the Festival commission.

A $30.00 non-refundable entry fee payable on-line is required for up to three pieces. If your work is not accepted into the juried show, up to three pieces will be allowed in the Open Show at no additional cost. Any additional pieces in the Open Show will be $30.00 for up to three pieces. Registration for the Open Show exhibit is available in person at Lakewood Center for the Arts on Open Show registration day, Sunday, June 17, 2012 1:00-4:00 p.m. (one day only). Emails will be sent out by March 16, 2012 to notify acceptance. Artists whose work is not accepted will receive a letter sent out on March 16. Acceptance letters and contracts will also be mailed at the same time. The required contract between the artist and the Festival must be returned by April 6, 2012.

Artist of accepted entries will be notified and given instructions for submitting the actual artwork. Shipping and drop off information will be sent with contracts. Shipping and insurance to the event and from the event (for unsold work) is the responsibility of the artist. Artwork that will be shipped must be received by the Festival no sooner than May 14 and no later than May 18, 2012. Artwork can be personally delivered during that same week.
