Imagine. Instead of a blank canvas, a blank computer screen. You begin with an electronic sketch-pad and pressure sensitive pen that lets you create your art digitally. Instead of acrylic, or oil, you use sophisticated software that lets you paint in any way imaginable. Digital artists put a whole new spin on how fine art and illustrations are created at this year’s special exhibit “Pixel: Artists Who Use The Computer.” Thanks to all who visited this unprecedented digital exhibit.
This special exhibit was the first on the west coast to feature a digital gallery, where the computer art was presented on state of the art, digital flat-panel displays and attendees bought high quality, limited edition prints. Over 40 digital artists displayed work and many offered demonstrations during the festival. Exhibit curators were Mark Fearing and Jeanette Pelster, Portland digital artists.

FIRST PLACE
Alberto Cerriteno, Portland, OR
www.albertocerriteno.com
Alberto Cerriteño is a Mexican graphic designer who has lived in America — Portland, specifically — for two years. He loves Portland because it is in this peculiar city that his critters were born. Perhaps it is the pleasant, laid-back atmosphere, or the distinct artistic energy that courses through his not-so-new home that has allowed his illustration aesthetic to blossom.
When he is not fathering outlandish creatures, he works as Senior Art Director for Curiosity Group, a local marketing and design firm, doing interactive design and animation work. Strongly inspired by urban vinyl toys, alternative cartoons, and the called “pop surrealism” movement, Alberto Cerriteño has developed his own very personal technique and style. There are delicate hints of traditional Mexican artistic influences in his management of rich textures and decorative patterns.
