Photoshop Demo – Mark Fitzgerald
Mark Fitzgerald took us on an exploration of Photoshop – the industry standard for digitally editing photography. Mark will used Photoshop’s newest version, CS3, to demonstrate standard image editing techniques as well as some interesting creative possibilities.

Like any new technological advancement in art over the centuries, digital media has generated its share of converts and detractors; stereotypes and “eureka!” moments. This panel discussed the pros and cons of digital and physical media. On the panel were artists who have both embraced this relatively new digital media, those who actively avoid it in favor of physical media and a range of those in between.

Invited Artist Demo – Brian Despain
Award winning digital illustrator and fine artist Brian Despain used the enigmatic program, “Painter” to create a one of a kind digital painting. Brian briefly covered set up and creation of tools and revealed the inner workings of his signature painting style. He also was available to answer any and all questions (validity of answers may vary).

Invited artist J. Otto Seibold Presentation

J. Otto Seibold escorted us into his digital world. J. Otto Seibold is an illustrator and co-author of many popular children’s books including, Monkey Business, Olive the Other Reindeer, Free Lunch, Gluey: A Snail Tale, and many others. He has been creating entire universes for children of all ages in the digital realm for many years. He will discuss his past work, future projects and answer questions.

Adobe Photoshop Demonstration with invited artist Lee Moyer
20 years ago, Photoshop revolutionized the art of photo retouching; complex procedures that had formerly taken hours (or days) took mere moments. It has since become the most powerful, nuanced and effective tool for working artists. You could spend a lifetime and never learn everything it can do! Lee created a piece using a few elements from home, while carefully following your suggestions. |

What’s better than a letter? What gets more regard than a card? With just a piece of paper, an envelope, your computer, and a little imagination, you can make truly inviting invitations and stellar stationery. In this demonstration, we saw how Photoshop and other digital tools are changing the way you can design, print and manipulate beautiful paper creations. Ada showed us a few essential techniques and answer your questions. We even had a few samples for folks to take home to inspire our own creativity.

Focus on Adobe Illustrator With Invited artist Echo Chernik
A Master, Instructor, and Abuser of both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator; Echo discussed what separates Raster art from Vector art. Delving into the Bezier that makes Vector what it is today, Echo discussed why it’s so important to think in shapes; and how to make those shapes work for us. And, as a wrap up, Echo explored the question: “Just because we work in a Vector program like Illustrator…does it have to look so very…Vector?” |

About The Festival
The Festival dates were June 22-24, 2007 and the hours were
10:00 AM - 9:00 PM on Friday June 22, 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM on Saturday June 23 and 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 24. All art exhibit displays were free and open to the public. There was a nominal charge for some lectures, workshops and children's performances.
The Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts has grown to include an open art show of more than 1,100 pieces of artwork, a craft faire featuring more than 120 Northwest artists, and a juried special exhibit of local and regional artists. Now attracting more than 25,000 people, this three-day celebration also showcases a performing art series, music in the park, master classes and a children's art and performance venue. This year's Co-Chairs are Lois Suwol and Karen Crist. |
