We are pleased to announce a Call to Artists for a Special Exhibit entitled Luminous Layers: Exploring Contemporary Encaustic with our featured artists, Jeff Schaller and Cari Hernandez.
Jurors for the exhibition are featured artist Cari Hernandez; publisher and founder of Artworks Magazine Tom Burns; and the director of sales and marketing at Butters Gallery in Portland, Oregon, Kristina Butters. More information about our jurors as well as our featured artists can be found by clicking the info link on the side bar of this page.
The Festival, entering its 47th year, is held in Lake Oswego, a suburb of Portland, Oregon. The event, a program division of Lakewood Center for the Arts, has grown to include an open art show of over 1,000 entries, a juried Fine Art Craft Faire featuring 115 artists, interactive artist demonstrations, and a juried exhibit of Northwest artists. Now attracting 25,000 people, this three-day celebration also features a performing art series, music in the park, special hands-on art exhibits, and a children's art and performance venue.
Each year the Festival showcases a different type of art for its cornerstone Special Exhibit. Its mission is to display and sell quality artwork and to educate patrons about a particular art form. For 2010, the exhibit will feature contemporary encaustic art.
Accepted work will be showcased in a gallery that has 3,000 square feet of well-designed space. The Luminous Layers exhibit will be composed of guest artists and a special juried component. It is anticipated that over 100 works of 2-D and 3-D encaustic art will be on display in this Special Exhibit. This will be the most comprehensive exhibit of encaustic art staged in the Pacific Northwest.
