About the Jurors
CARI HERNANDEZ
I was born and raised in the
Bay Area of Northern California. I studied fine art photography at the Academy
of Art University in San Francisco, CA. Prior to becoming a full-time studio
artist, I operated my own commercial photography studio for 7 years in San
Francisco, CA. As a full-time artist I teach, lecture, and show my work
nationally. I am a founding board member of International Encaustic Artists,
and have served as the creator and director of their past three annual retreat
& conferences. My life is full and I am grateful for all that is a part of
it, especially my daughter. We make our home in Northern California, enjoying
the ocean and mountains as much as possible.

TOM BURNS
Tom Burns founded Artworks Magazine and has served as its publisher since its inception in 2004. The publication is dedicated to promoting the art and artists of the West Coast. The glossy publication celebrates art in all of its forms, giving artists a platform in which to share their visions. So much attention is given to artists working in New York; Tom feels that the richness and diversity of West Coast art is often overlooked.
Although he has a business and marketing degree from Texas Christian University, he went back to school to pursue a career in fine art after working several years in the corporate world. As a painter, he is inspired by the great Bay Area abstract expressionists of the 1950sand 1960s, as well as the California landscape in all its diversity.
