ABOUT THIS ONE-TIME ONLY EXHIBIT

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the City of Lake Oswego, the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts is excited to announce a one-time only very special exhibit entitled, "The Artist's Centennial Vision: A Juried Exhibit."  This juried exhibit will feature artworks inspired by the formative years of Lake Oswego, Oregon where time stood still between the banks of the Willamette River and Oswego Lake.

A ONE-TIME ONLY $1,000 JUROR’S AWARD

WILL BE PRESENTED TO ONE PIECE IN THIS EXHIBIT

To honor the city's heritage and our artists' contribution to its character, an unprecedented cash award of $1,000 will be given to the recipient of the "Jurors' Award" during the Festival.

Artists are encouraged to visually interpret the decade that launched the now distinctive City of Lake Oswego between 1910 and 1920. This period is noted as a transitional time when Oswego began its transformation from a gritty iron town to a gentrified residential and recreational paradise. Both two and three-dimensional works executed in a variety of media that demonstrate unique references to this time period in Lake Oswego are sought for submission.

We hope this exhibit will creatively challenge artists to explore themes of pre-World War I. We are particularly eager to see and encourage works that interpret or reflect how life was lived, viewed and/or celebrated in this unique period of time.

Let your imagination soar! Themes to explore might include transportation, recreation, architecture, food, holiday celebrations, fashion, agriculture, family gatherings, historical events, natural resources, tools, lifestyle, entertainment, etc.

Information about Oswego life in the 1910s can be found in the Lake Oswego Library's historic photo collection which is available online at:  http://www.ci.oswego.or.us/photos/.  Another resource is Ann Fulton's illustrated history of Lake Oswego titled Iron, Wood & Water.

Artworks executed in a variety of media that illustrate or demonstrate the above are encouraged for submission. To download a prospectus on our website and entry form, click here.
