Session 1
The Mystery Radio Hour
July 12 - 23, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
- The Mystery Radio Hour takes us back in time to the mid 1950’s when radio was still king, but TV was coming on strong. A radio station has been going down in the ratings and the new owner has taken over to revitalize their flagship show, The Mystery Radio Hour. In the mean time, the staff and crew are outraged that the new owner is changing everything, including the story lines, the music and even making female roles more prominent. Complete with gangsters trying to force the station to pay up bad loans, to donut munching detectives, to disappearing crew members and a masked marauder or two, the show may not have enough characters left to do it’s first new show. Who is responsible? We may never know! In the style of the old time Radio Mysteries, the actors will experience what it was like to do a radio show, including Jingle Singers who sing the commercials, voice talent who read the parts, sound effects people to do the special effects and even audience participation to see who is guilty. The Mystery Radio Hour has parts for every level of actor. Eight original songs will be taught and there are plenty of solos, duets and small group singing for all.
Session 2
National Bandstand II, The British Invasion
August 2 - 13, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
- This is the sequel to one of Sleepy Hollow Children’s Theatre’s most popular show. The time is 1963 and the British Invasion of rock bands is sweeping across the country like a storm. Johnny and Tony Dash are about to lose their show, National Bandstand. Who is behind it? None other than that devious Rick Lark and The British agent of the Bull Weevils, who have plotted to take back the show and feature the new sound of the British Rock Bands. Most of the characters from the original show are back, including the Beatnik family of “Cools” who are moving from Beatniks to peace loving Hippies. Just as things looks the darkest for Johnny, Tony and all their friends, a new backer is found and the show goes on with a new British Band, The Tumbling Rocks, on their side. Six new songs are added to new versions of some the olds songs from the first show. Plenty of intrigue and back room deals will keep the audience guessing all the way to the end. National Bandstand II has parts for every level of actor. Twelve songs will be taught and there are plenty of solos, duets and small group singing to go around.
