About the Open Show:

The Open Show is the one of the largest shows of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. The show displays work from emerging and professional artists. Everyone is welcome without a jury process. A limited number of cash and non-cash awards are presented each year which are sponsored by area businesses, organizations and individuals. Different arts professionals are selected as judges each year.


 About the Judges - 2013

Erik Geschke is a sculptor and mixed-media artist who exhibits his work both nationally and internationally. Venues include the UCLA Hammer Museum of Art in Los Angeles, ZieherSmith Gallery in New York City and the FIAC Contemporary Art Fair in Paris, France. He has received the Betty Bowen Special Recognition Award from the Seattle Art Museum, the Seattle Artists Award from the Seattle Arts Commission, an Individual Artists Grant from the Oregon Arts Commission, and been chosen for the Oregon Artists at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program by the Ford Family Foundation.  He has also received recognition from the Regional Arts and Cul-ture Council, the Jerome Foundation and the College Art Association. Erik lives and works in Portland, Oregon where he is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Portland State University.

Carolyn Cole a painter, finds her voice within the rich traditions of abstraction. Her cohesive body of work translates into a language of intense color, sumptuous textures, and organic compositions. Color plays an important role in describing the emotional value and mood in each work. Her forms and textured surfaces are instinctually achieved through the process of applying multiple layers of pigment. Carolyn is an honors graduate of Portland State University.  Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, including the Seattle Art Museum and Portland Art Museum.  She lived and exhibited extensively for ten years in New York City before settling back into the Northwest in 1991. She is represented by art galleries in Chicago, Los Angeles, Carmel, and Englewood, NJ.  She is represented by Butters Gallery in Portland, Oregon.  Her work is included in numerous private and public collections including former Vice President Al Gore, Gordon Seigel, president of Crate & Barrel, former Presidential Chief of Staff John Podesta, Disney Productions, Zale Corporation, IBM Corporation, Kaiser Permanente, RNM Properties, Salton, Inc., TRW Corporation, American Express, Campbell Soup Company, and the Heinz Corporation.


Vincent Ferguson is a Fine Art Photographer working with the Emerald Studios in SE Portland.  He worked his craft and fine tuned his photographic eye as a hobby for 20 years.  Vince has worked as a  professional photographer for ten years.  His photographs are compartmentalized into abstract art, portraits and architectural images.  The artistic “Digital Mandalas” are mysterious and seeded in a deep eastern tradition.   Vincent takes the ordinary and spins it into a vision of ancient lore.  He also creates high quality portraits for individuals and families.  He captures the inner spirit and glimmer of soul of his clients.  He is a popular photographer of the architecture of homes and businesses for the Real Estate profession.  Vincent is an administrative assistant at Portland Art Museum's Rental Sales Gallery and  a consultant at the ReSale Art Gallery in the Sellwood.
