Lakewood Theatre Company will be having open auditions for roles in tghe musical THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW on SATURDAY, MAY 4 and SUNDAY, MAY 5, 2019. The director is casting actors ages 18 and up. ALL roles are open and available for audition and all receive remuneration.

NOTE: Actors are asked to sign up for auditions online to secure a slot. We are very open to diversity in casting and ALL ethnicities are encouraged to audition. If you are unable to navigate this online process, call Lakewood Theatre at 503-635-3901.

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW  has music, lyrics and book by Richard O'Brien. Lakewood's production will be directed by John Oules and the musical director is Darcy White.

Audition Requirements:

  • Please submit online your appointment request along with your resume and headshot by following the instructions on the online audition site. You can email a resume and head shot to  and note ROCKY AUDITION and your LAST NAME in the subject line. Please bring both resume and head shot to your audition appointment as back up.
  • The director is seeking performers ages 18 and up.
  • All races/ethnicities are encouraged to apply.
  • Please prepare 32 bars (approx.1 minute) in the style of the show (your song should not be from Rocky). You MAY be asked to sing a contrasting song as well. Please make sure your song is in the correct key for your voice. An accompanist will be provided. Please, no recorded music or a cappella singing.
  • Callbacks and dance auditions will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.
  • List all conflicts between August 1  October 13, 2019. Conflicts not listed may not be honored.

Important Dates:

Rehearsal schedule: Rehearsals will begin August 1 and continue Monday – Friday 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM, Saturdays 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Sundays off.
Performance schedule: The Rocky Horror Show opens September 6 and continues through October 13. Performances are Thurs. – Sat. at 7:30 PM, Sundays at 2:00 and 7:00 PM and two Wednesday evening performances at 7:30 PM. Lakewood Theatre Company features an intimate 220-seat theatre located at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego.

About the musical
The Rocky Horror Show, the musical by Richard O'Brien, is a humorous tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the late 1940s through early 1970s. The musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple getting caught in a storm and coming to the home of a mad transvestite scientist unveiling his new creation, a muscle man named Rocky Horror.

Breakdown of Roles:

Please note: All roles are open. Lakewood supports and encourages diversity in all casting. All roles receive remuneration.

Brad: Male, Age 20-30 tenor, high G, a handsome and wholesome young man, must be able to play stilted innocence and as well as some fragility.

Janet: Female, Age 20-30, mezzo with belt, occasional high F, a youthful, pretty and wholesome young woman, she is coy and shy at first then becomes sexy and outlandish.

Narrator: Male or female, Age range 18-64, mostly non-singing, guides us through the show in a dry, British-humor-inspired manner, a unique speaking voice is required, must have a strong presence.

Riff Raff: Male, Age 20-40, strong rock tenor, high B, an eccentric butler of Dr. Frank ‘N’ Furter, must be able to sufficiently “scream” the “time warp.”

Magenta: Female, Age Flexible, husky rock mezzo/alto, low B to high E flat, a very strange servant of Dr. Frank ‘N’ Furter, possibly has Eastern-European accent, also appears as “Trixie - The Usherette” and sings “Science Fiction Double Feature.”

Columbia: Female, Age 20-30, mezzo/high tenor, strong belt, one of Dr. Frank ‘N’ Furter’s groupies, strong character actor, cute and bubbly with a rough, rocker side, must be able to tap.

Frank ‘N’ Furter: Male Transvestite, Age 30-50, baritone/tenor, a cross-dressing mad scientist/ transvestite from the planet Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania, brilliant comic timing and charismatic.

Rocky: Male, Age 20-30, rock baritone/tenor, high A, the result of one of the Frank’s experiments, he is muscular, tan and epitomizes the image of “the perfect man.”

Eddie/Dr. Scott: Male, Age 20-45, baritone, E3-F#4, Eddie as deliveryman, “went to pieces.” Misses the rock and roll of life. Comes back to life only to die after his solo. Scott is Eddie’s Uncle.

Transylvanians/Phantoms (Singers/Dancers/Actors of various voice ranges, body types and ages) All appear as rockin’ back-up singers and in dance sequences. These characters are involved in audience interaction and should be comfortable and have experience with improvisation.

Auditions are by appointment. Callbacks and dance auditions will be held on Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2, 2019..
