Programming and Events
Our mission is to "inspire and nurture a love of the arts" and we proudly house a wide variety of programs advocating the arts and arts education. First among these is Lakewood Theatre Company, the longest-running, non-profit theatre company in the Portland metropolitan area. Established in 1952, it now runs up to sixteen shows and provides opportunities for 400 theatre artists. We also offer a wide range of youth and adult classes, taught by Lakewood instructors and independent educators. This includes our Rising Star program providing opportunity to new, emerging and established artists. In addition, the NAEYC certified Community Arts Preschool resides here.
The Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts, our yearly arts education event, is a major regional arts event located here in Lake Oswego, Oregon. It presents the creative endeavors of recognized and emerging artists and enjoys an outstanding reputation for bringing special exhibits of quality and diversity to a weekend that is accessible to everyone. Attracting some 25,000 visitors during the three days of the event, the Festival includes several art exhibits, music, fine art crafts, dance, hands-on arts activities, demonstrations, and educational displays. Lakewood Center is also home to the Entryway Gallery, featuring a rotation of curated exhibits with local and regional artists.
Lakewood is nonprofit organization, member owned and deeply connected to the community. This organization is, as it has always been, dependent upon the generosity of those who believe the performing and visual arts are enjoyable facets of community life. Lakewood is not tax supported. There are several fundraising events throughout the year to help fund our artistic programming, operations, and special capital campaigns.
