Largest Open Show in Pacific Northwest with over 1,000 works from 300 artists
Open Show Sponsor:
Judges: Dave MacGougan & Whitney Hall
Location: Umpqua Investments Pavilion Tent at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street, Lake Oswego
What you’ll find: Emerging and established artists alike share the stage to celebrate fine art.
One-thousand-plus original art works from over 300 artists in their early-, mid-, or late-careers. Images range from figurative oil painting to abstract encaustics and everything in between. The Open Show is a visual feast that draws art enthusiasts seeking the “just right” piece to adorn that empty wall at home. You’re invited to stroll through the big tent behind the Lakewood Center to enjoy the unique, creative visions of artists from Oregon and beyond.
All artists — regardless of experience, media, price, or age — are welcome to this, the largest non-juried show in the Pacific Northwest. Works from emerging and established artists hang side-by-side, making for a stimulating exploration of the many micro-galleries. Let yourself be dazzled by painting, photography, fabric, computer-generated art, sculpture, mixed media, and drawing.
When planning your weekend at the festival, be sure to leave ample time to experience the incredible Open Show located in the large tent behind the Lakewood Center. Not only does the show feature hundreds of artists expressing themselves through various mediums, it is in fact the largest show of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, ensuring that there is something for everyone. All of the pieces will be up for sale, so if you are in need of that signature piece for your living room, perhaps a gift for a friend, or maybe just a small treat for yourself, this show is a must-see.
This year, the Lakewood Center welcomed Selena Jones as the new curator for this exhibition. “I am interested in integrating the mediums as much as possible, so as to display each piece in the best light.” She encourages contrast in the exhibition, adding that each medium gives its own spice to the mix.
Much of the preparation that goes into curating this exhibition includes organizing the tent thematically. Jones says that she takes much of her organizational inspiration from nature, and is excited to create beautiful paths lined with art, intermixed with plants all around the tent to create a scenic atmosphere of natural greenery. “I expect there will be artwork about the Pacific Northwest, so how can we best relate that back to the green movement happening around us?”
Furthermore, Jones notes that the premise for an open show is to allow both emerging and established artists to display their work on an equal playing field. “At the end of the day, the Open Show is a wonderful inclusive celebration of fine art.”
Curatorial Assistants are on hand to answer questions and assist with your art purchases. Enjoy the show and the breadth of talent and creativity before you.
