A Splendid Celebration of Fine Art

When planning your weekend at the Festival, be sure to leave ample time to experience the incredible Open Show located in the large tent behind the Lakewood Center. Featuring hundreds of artists working in a range of media, the Open Show is the largest of its kind in the Pacific Northwest! There is something for everyone. All the pieces are for sale. If you are looking for that signature piece for your living room, a gift for a friend, or maybe just a small treat for yourself, this show is a must-see.

Artist demos at the 2016 Festival of the ArtsThe Lakewood Center welcomes Carissa Burkett as the new curator for this exhibition. “I am excited by the mystery and curatorial challenge of not knowing what art will be showing up until registration day and curating the show through immediate choices and responses to the work, versus the extensive planning that juried shows allow for,” shares Carissa. She and her curatorial team formed groupings of work based on thematic responses to submission, instead of by medium. Carissa is curious to see how all the pieces enhance one another by integrating mediums throughout the show.

Burkett notes that the premise for an open show is to bring together work by artists at all different levels in their careers, exhibited side-by-side. “I hope that this year’s open show is a great opportunity for artists to reach new audiences for their work and for viewers, appreciators and collectors to experience a breadth of diverse fine art.”
