Sleepy Hollow Children’s Theatre Workshop and Production

Monday - Friday 2 weeks
9 AM - 2 PM Ages 7 - 17
Founder/Director: Steve Christensen $225

Sleepy Hollow, now in its 23rd year, returns for two sessions of theater production, using original musicals as vehicles to teach all areas of Musical Theater. The final product of the workshop will be public performances on the last two days of the workshop, and a take-home DVD of the performance for students. The Sleepy Hollow workshop and performance has often been a young actor’s first experience participating in live theatre. Many return year after year for the training and performance opportunity Sleepy Hollow offers. Areas of study include: Auditioning, Staging, Choreography, Character Development, Vocal Techniques, Creative Dramatics, Direction, Improvisation & Evaluation. These workshops challenge young actors from beginners to experieneced thespians. Check out the experienced teachers who head up the Sleepy Hollow faculty.

Session I: July 10 - 21

Red Sky, Private Eye

Session II: July 31 - Aug. 11

Beauty and the Beast

Red Sky, Private Eye is a Musical Comedy by workshop director, Steve Christensen. It tells the story of Red Sky, (Private Eye by day/50s cover band leader by night) on the toughest job yet: The Case of the Missing Millionaire. He or she has been hired by the daughter of a wealthy financier to find her missing father: Manny Bucks. It seems he had been working with a less than honest partner for the last few years who becomes the primary suspect. However, Red and his associates think it is too obvious. With plenty of leads and a lot of suspects from every walk of life, Red and his crack team of investigators (and fellow musicians) end up having to save the entire country from the mysterious villain who threatens to continue to nab Millionaires until his/her unusual demands are met. With seven new songs and enough plot twists to truly keep the audience in comic suspense, Sleepy Hollow hopes to entertain students and parents alike.

Beauty & The Beast is an original musical (not to be confused with the Disney version) by workshop director, Steve Christensen.  It tells the story of Beauty and her family, and how she is forced to live with a Beast. All the townspeople, including her family, are convinced Beauty is just a dreamer who does not know the difference between the books she loves and reality. We also meet the braggart, Boaston and his henchmen, who believe he is the greatest. The rest of the cast is made up with people who live in the castle with Beast, which includes his dethroned parents and all the servants who will be cast out into the woods if Beast does not find true love, soon. Boaston is extremely determined to take Beauty as his wife and when he finds out Beauty is with the beast, he rallies the townspeople and his henchmen to go to the castle and free Beauty. With seven new songs added to a new twist on an old classic, Sleepy Hollow hopes to entertain students and parents alike.
