Pre-Ballet

Instructor: Kasha Watts $38

This is a fun, creative introduction to basic ballet movement. Emphasis is on coordination, rhythm, music and mime using props, rhymes, stories and imagination. Ballet I

Tuesdays Jul. 30 - Aug. 13 3 weeks
2 - 3 PM Ages 6 +
Instructor: Kasha Watts $48

This class is a transition from the creative movement aspect of Pre-Ballet to a more formal ballet class in which the fundamentals of ballet and barre work are introduced. Focus is on posture, muscle strength, and musicality in a supportive and encouraging environment.  One to two years ballet experience required. Ballet II/III

Tuesdays & Thursdays, Jul. 30 - Aug. 15 3 weeks
3 - 4:15 PM Ages 8 +
Instructor: Kasha Watts $60 1x week | $122 2x week

This is a formal ballet class where students participate in stretching, barre work and center floor work.Students will further develop posture, muscle strength, flexibility, technique, musicality and self-discipline in a supportive and encouraging environment. Classes are cumulative from fall term through spring term, new students encouraged to begin during fall term. One to two years ballet experience required. Ballet IV/Pointe

Mondays & Wednesdays, Jul. 29 - Aug. 14 3 weeks
4 - 5:30 PM Technique, 5:30 - 6 PM Pointe Ages 10 +
Instructor: Kasha Watts $195

Ballet Level lV students further develop their ballet technique through stretching, barre work, and center floor work. Continued emphasis on posture, muscle strength, flexibility, technique, musicality, and self discipline in a supportive and encouraging environment. Students will continue working on turns and more challenging allegro (jumps) work. Pointe work will be introduced to level IV students ages 10 plus and must have permission from Ms. Kasha. Kids Create - Summer Stars!

Six weeks of one-week sessions for this popular program! Children will step into the world of creating, designing and making their own show from pure imagination. Through games, play, art, mu¬sic and dance, students will create an exciting show. Remember to bring a snack and get ready to have a wonderful time. Performance on the last day of camp. TV/Film Acting: Starstruck

Get a taste of stardom and have a blast! Create and perform shows, practice improvisations, presentations, and auditions using commercial, film, and TV scripts (both comedy and drama). Instant video feedback helps students improve and gain confidence. Parents are invited to observe the last class in action! Instructor Sandra Peabody is an Emmy-award winning writer/producer/director and represents talent for voice over, film, and television work in the Northwest and Los Angeles. Limited to 8 students. Sleepy Hollow Children's Theatre Workshops

Monday - Friday 2 weeks per session
9 AM - 2 PM Ages 7 - 17
Instructor: Steve Christensen $225/session

Sleepy Hollow, now in its 25th year, returns for two sessions of theater production, using original musicals as vehicles to teach all areas of Musical Theater. The final product of the workshop will be public performances at 1 PM on the last two days of the workshop with a take-home DVD of the performance for students. Both sessions focus on taking the students from where they are in experience to a higher level, including beginners who have never participated in theatre before. All of the Sleepy Hollow staff are certified teachers with many years of experience in the classroom and teaching drama to all ages. Many aspects of theater will be taught including Character Development, Blocking, Vocal Techniques, Choreography, Dramatics and working in a large group. Session 1:  Jul. 8 – 19                   Performances July 18 & 19, 2 PM

Oz Forever is a reimagined sequel to The Wizard of Oz set two generations in the future. The premise is that in the Land of Oz, everything is as it was – but in Kansas, it is 40 years later. Dorothy’s granddaughter Thya and Thya’s little brother Toto are taken to Oz to meet everyone that Grandma Dorothy has told them about. Complete with most of the characters from the original musical, plus a new villainess (Wicked Wanda), this musical will challenge all levels of actor. There are parts for 50 students that all have multiple lines and sing on most of the songs.

Session 2:  Jul. 29 – Aug. 9             Performances Aug. 8 & 9, 2 PM

Star Power II: Crook is Back! is the musical. Star Power, a fictional Captain of a starship in the future, is trying to contain his arch enemy: the Space Pirate, Captain Crook. The Crew of the starship, along with mystical creatures, go toe to toe to outwit a large band of Space Pirates who are full of Arrg! This musical will challenge all levels of actors.  There are parts for 50 students that all have multiple lines and sing on most of the songs.

Monday - Saturday, Jul. 22 - Aug. 2 2 weeks

Instructor: Outstanding Professionals in Musical Theatre $495

This program offers high school and college students with professional music theatre aspirations advanced training and development for music theatre performance. The intensive 11-day summer program is directed by individuals with years of professional and educational musical theatre experience. Learn from directors and teachers who cast and produce musicals.

The program offers an opportunity to:

  • Develop critical techniques for stage, voice and dance skills in a professional atmosphere.
  • Learn selections and scenes from popular hits such as Hamilton, Les Misérables, Cinderella, Into the Woods and less familiar musicals designed to broaden the actor’s repertoire for future auditions and competitions.
  • Perform in a showcase that will tour to different venues with a finale performance for family, friends and community on the Headlee Mainstage at the Lakewood Center for the Arts.

The workshop is designed for students ages of 14 - 20 who seek advanced study in music theatre with prior experience in one or more performance skills, including singing, dancing or acting.

You will never know the full potential of your own singing voice until you take this step. This class is for you if you want to audition for musicals, sing with friends, perform karaoke or prepare for competition. This class is especially aimed at the individual who wants to be prepared for any occasion and any role, including the ones that require a song or two. Learn the full range of your voice, how to carry a tune and how to sell a song. Class limit 10.

Playing With Shakespeare

Back by popular demand! This acting class brings together a love of language, magic, mood, intrigue and, of course, some of the most beautiful theatre ever written! An ongoing in-depth class for actors who want to master their craft while preparing themselves for auditions and work. Students perform their own choice of scenes, monologues, auditions and storytelling, all in a creative environment for stretching and growing. This class is designed for intermediate/advanced actors who are serious about pursuing professional acting opportunities. Students already in this class are encouraged to return as often as they like. Prerequisite: a class with Nancy, other acting classes, or prior acting work.

Finding Your Ancestral Gold - One Saturday Only!

Everyone has an amazing family history, but most have no clue how truly remarkable it is because they have never investigated the generations going far back in time. This workshop, led by a genealogist and author of four family histories, Laurence Overmire, inspires you to embark on a quest for your ancestral heritage and guides you through the steps to get you started.

Pocket Sketching Workshop

Friday - Sunday, Jun. 28 - 30 3 days only

Learn enough to play for a lifetime! This is the perfect technique for travel journaling, hiking, biking, sauntering or sitting in a café. Capture what you think you see in 25 minutes or less using a water soluble pen, a 4 x 6 inch pad of paper and a small paint set. Ideal for the timid beginner to paint fearlessly in public, and the advanced artist who wants total portability, speed and no clean-up. Much is based on the watercolors of John Singer Sargent. Bring $42 for supplies to first session.

Lakewood will be hosting an OLCC Alcohol Server Education class for wine servers. The class is open to all who are interested. Lakewood will cover a portion of class fees for our regular volunters. After this class, you will be eligible to apply for an OLCC Service Permit, which are required for anyone who serves alcohol for on-premises consumption (fee for license is not included).
