Lakewood Theatre Company’s Lost Treasures Collection continues its 11th season with King of Hearts. This rarely performed musical from 1978 is based on the 1966 anti-war cult film by the same name. The show was created by Tony award-winning individuals with the book by Joseph Stein, lyrics by Jacob Brackman, and music by Peter Link.

King of Hearts will perform in concert-style on the side-door stage at Lakewood Center for the Arts on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, Oct. 23 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Tickets are $20 for all seats.

The Story: Set in fictional France shortly before the end of World War I, Private Johnny Perkins (Nick Serrone) has a mission to defuse a bomb intended to destroy the entire village. All the local residents have fled, leaving behind only the cheerful inmates of the insane asylum who happily take over the town and proclaim Johnny their King of Hearts. The show asks who is more insane: the asylum patients or those who wage war?

Featured performers in King of Hearts include David Mitchum Brown as Genevieve and German General, Lisa Knox as Madeleine, Sophie MacKay as Jeunefille and Aide, Troy Sawyer as Barber and American Soldier, Jeremy Southard as Duke and Kost, Adrienne Southard as Duchess and German Soldier, and Doug Zimmerman as Bishop and Lt. Cooper.

The Lost Treasures Collection of rarely performed musical gems is curated and directed by Dennis Corwin and Jeffrey Michael Kauffman is the music director. The pianist is Cade O’Haver. Shows in this collection are staged concert-style and are presented script-in-hand with minimal staging. No sets. No props.

Lakewood Theatre Company’s Side Door Stage is located at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State St. in Lake Oswego. Note: only beverages will be available for purchase before and during this attraction. General seating will be by group.

A vaccination card and ID are required for entry. Please wear your mask when inside Lakewood and during the performance. Beverages only will be available for purchase.
