The Story: Set in the glamour of 1960s Venice, Italy, Nine tells the tale of famed film director and lover Guido Contini (Matthew Hayward) as he approaches 40 in the midst of creative and covetous confusion. As Guido struggles to make a film for which he hasn’t yet written the script, he must also attempt to repair his crumbling marriage.
Throughout his despair, Guido confronts the women in his life, both past and present, to help decipher his mid life crisis in a series of dreamy memories and stark reality. First, his wife Luisa (Chrissy Kelly-Pettit) threatens divorce if he continues to fail to listen to her. Then, his mistress Carla (Ecaterina Lynn) calls for him longingly from her hotel room. Later, his film star muse Claudia (Sarah Maines) arrives to say she doesn’t want the starring role in his latest film. Meanwhile, his producer, Liliane LeFleur (Terra Lynn Hill), pressures Guido to make the movie a musical. In order to grow up and take control of his life, Guido must battle his self-indulgent nature with the assistance of his younger selves (Matthew Sepeda, Karsten George).
As creator Maury Yeston notes, “The great secret of Nine is that it took Fellini’s 8½ and became an essay on the power of women by answering the question, 'What are women to men?' And Nine tells you: they are our mothers, our sisters, our teachers, our temptresses, our judges, our nurses, our wives, our mistresses, our muses.” Yeston called the musical Nine, explaining that if you add music to 8½, "it's like half a number more."

Other members of the cast include Libby Clow, Rachelle Riehl, Josie Seid, Angela Baldino, Liza Clark, Christine Greenhaigh, Malerie Jo, Verónika Nuñez, Audrey Sackett, Ellie Simnitt and Jennie Spada.
