No Strings

Music & Lyrics by Richard Rodgers
Book by Samuel Taylor

No Strings is a musical drama with a book by Samuel A. Taylor and words and music by Richard Rodgers, his only Broadway score for which he wrote both lyrics and music, and the first musical he composed after the death of his long-time collaborator Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical opened on Broadway in 1962 and ran for 580 performances. It received a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical.

The story: Fashion model Barbara Woodruff (Kelly Sina), living in Paris, France, meets and falls in love with expatriate American David Jordan (Kurt Raimer), a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist who has suffered from an intense case of writer's block since his arrival in France. As the model's work takes them on a whirlwind tour of the most exclusive European playgrounds, their romance develops into the first deeply-felt, honest relationship either has ever known.

Among the many characters they meet are fashion editor Mollie Plummer (Avery Heater), American gigolo Mike Robinson (Will Shindler), poor little rich girl Comfort O'Connell (Sydney Webber), high-fashion photographer Luc Delbert (Adam Caniparoli), and his assistant, Jeannette (Essy Canty Bertain).

The model, however, ruefully comes to realize that the life-style demanded by her career is stifling the writer, and if he's ever to fulfill the promise of his earlier work, he must take responsibility for himself, go home, and write. He invites her to go with him but, realizing they have no future together, they part with "no strings" attached.
